Rumination Day

The core of this idea came from learning that one meaning of “ruminate” is “chew the cud” for ruminants, e.g. cows and goats, and that “ruminant” comes from their multi-chambered stomachs, including a large “rumen”. From there I had the idea of contrasting my own “rumination” in the form of a brain diagram. Happily enough, brains actually do have four main compartments, which worked very nicely for consistency purposes.

The Tallest Man in the World

I meant for the ‘pain’ of the tall guy to be physical rather than metaphorical. But both work, I guess. I wanted to do something less detailed, realistic. This may be a bit too far in the cartoony direction. I don’t know. It’s been awhile since I’ve done something non-digital and it’s nice in some ways (tactile, less likely to overwork for hours for minimal improvements) but frustrating in others (much harder to fix mistakes).

Kudos to my brother for the punch line (and inspiration for the comic). Easter Rocks

Please see the full size image; it loses a lot of detail when resized and converted to jpeg. I’ve had this idea kicking around for awhile (first with a trap-door spider, then with Jesus). I had the idea to do it in the style of a stained glass Stations of the Cross, with an intentionally flat style. I found there was a stained glass set of brushes for Procreate and set off to do it.

Failed Animal Inventions

This one was fun (though very time consuming). The initial idea was Snake crate (bad business ideas). Then came glass cage for birds. Spitballed a few other examples. Here’s the original sketch: Photo reference credits: Beaver - Judith Lehmberg Lizard - Mark Boulton Fly - Stanford News Horse - Rachel C NOTE: Reddit user Captain_Saftey pointed out that my original caption for Spider booties (“I feel like I have 4 left feet!

A Stroke of Genius

Turns out smelling burnt toast as precursor to a stroke is a myth. But I didn’t know that when I conceived of this one.
image from Stop the Steal

Stop the Steal

Dumb little comic inspired by the somewhat ungrammatical “Stop the steal” protests. Update: My favorite thing about this is that YouTube put up a little “this may be misleading” warning. Robots don’t understand irony.

The Parabola of the Loaves and Fishes

Dumb little pun based on the Parable of the Loaves and Fishes aka “Feeding the multitude”, the purported miracle in which Jesus fed thousands of people with some small number of loaves of bread and fish.

Early Retirement

This was inspired by two of my siblings as yet another pun comic. For this to make much sense at all you need to know that FIRE = Financial Independence Retire Early. I had a very hard time with the actual art this time - I know there’s no chair behind the woman but no matter what I tried it looked wrong. So use your imagination. I think I’ve gotten rusty from taking time off.
